BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Western Kentucky University Athletics Director Ross Bjork said the school has dismissed Ken McDonald as head basketball coach.
In a statement released Friday, Bjork said the program needed a new direction after a 5-11 start this season and declining attendance. The school tapped McDonald to replace David Horn as head coach in 2008. McDonald has led the program to a 62-36 record going into this season.
Assistant coach Ray Harper has been named interim coach. Harper spent 12 seasons as head coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College and Oklahoma City University before moving to Western Kentucky as an assistant coach for the 2008-09 season. He compiled a 342-63 record and his teams won four national championships while reaching the title game on five other occasions.
