Best Beginner Parrot For A New Bird Owner | home and family blogs

By Jill Danske

Parrots make great pets and I guess we all know that. You've decided to purchase a pet bird. If you're not careful, though, you may end up with a bird that's too much for you to handle. Some birds demand more attention and care than the average pet owner can muster. What, then, are the best parrots for beginners?

Fortunately, many parrots make excellent pets, even for those owners who have little experience with birds.

Some of the more exotic parrots can live for 50 years or more. They can be a burden for pet owners who are unprepared for the demands that a pet parrot can have.

Also these parrrots tend to be quieter than their needier counterparts. And they can get along fine with a bit of attention every day from their owners, the right amount of food and water and parrot toy or two to keep them busy.

The best way to find the right parrot for you is to do some preliminary research before you hit the pet stores. Fortunately, the Internet is filled with good information on the wide variety of pet parrots available today.

A Senegal parrot is another good choice for those with little pet-owning experience. These small African Parrots boast a grey head, green back and wings and yellowish-orange undersides. These birds are extremely affectionate. They are also some of the quieter parrots on the market.

You may be tempted to purchase an Amazon parrot. These parrots are more expensive than others, and often require more attention. But several varieties of these birds actually make good parrots for beginners.

For instance, the lilac-crown Amazon parrots are quieter than other Amazon parrots, and generally do not require as much attention.

Not everyone is suited to own a demanding Amazon parrot. Yes, they may be lovely to look at, but the can be a bear to take care of. Do your research, and find the perfect parrot for beginners.
