Children who attend day fitness bootcamp or who attend one away from home learn valuable lessons about healthy eating. Some day camps offer afternoon or morning programs for children as young as six who engage in group exercise and lessons about nutrition. Other fitness bootcamps build a program around weight loss and lifestyle changes for teenagers.
The fitness bootcamp idea is derived from the military bootcamps designed to turn men and women with average fitness level into physically stronger, healthier individuals. If you are looking for the right program for your child, be careful that the procedures used are safe and that the instructors are properly certified. If your child needs to lose weight, talk to your pediatrician about the camp options and get his or her input about the program that will be most beneficial. Be careful that the program does not expect too much from a child who is not normally physically active. A good fitness bootcamp should be able to adjust exercise methods for children with specific health and weight issues.
